For the customer Helsana AG, Zurich, I was commissioned to check the use of Microsoft Azure in the cloud variant for legal compliance and data protection problems.
In addition to financial aspects, the sticking points were the following:
a) EU certification ISO 27018 (Microsoft is currently the only provider to receive the ISO standard).
b) Encryption of the data with its own key. At the time of my assessment, Microsoft could not represent this.
c) Connection to the cloud. In my opinion, it was technically not possible to set up several independent connections in parallel – in order to minimize connection failure.
d) Legal implementation ability. For my appraisal, the Swiss legislature had to allow the provider to have a personal appraisal on site. Microsoft has categorically excluded this.
e) Financial consideration. The implementation of the desired functionalities resulted in considerable costs.

Transition project / rollout

Migration project
For the migration project, global rollout of Win7 with around 120,000 clients, I took on the role of quality assurance and last level support.

Project and data protection audit
An audit according to ISO 9001 was carried out for the migration of employee data, customer data and the client’s request to use this data. Planning the relocation of the entire IT of SBB Cargo, according to a process-controlled operating procedure, from five locations and monitoring the progress of the move. During the move, it was my job to ensure that all equipment was used or replaced as in the concept. A new client was also rolled out. The software to be provided for this was supplied by a third party supplier.

Development:
Software distribution with NetInstall 4.0 and 5.1. The packages were created using snapshots and, if necessary, modified by hand. For this it was necessary to make appropriate policy and registry changes.
Creation of notebook images using Ghost.
Creation of a database under Access for the purpose of calculating an interest rate tool and an overview for the securities traded. Queries and revision security under ACL with an interface to an SQL database for further processing.
I've created two new types of clients for the bank. The first one was revised in the course of the Y2k problem and a new one was created, this was rolled out as a standard client for the entire bank, 1400 clients. The second one was developed by me as a home workstation with a connection to the intranet and the hosts, here 3270 emulation, and then rolled out.
Test environment, implementation:
Creation of the test environment, elaboration of the tests and implementation of the same due to the year 2000 problem. The tests were carried out in accordance with the test specifications and the applications were tested for Y2k capability using the prescribed simulations. A test tool was sometimes used by the manufacturer Microsoft for this purpose.
Programming:
